Restoration of Vintage Receivers

In one of your FAQ's for potentiometer maintenance, you refer to plastic, metal and carbon based pots. What exactly is meant by this? Are you referring to the exterior package or the material used in the wiper assembly?

I am about to start restoring several vintage (1950's) tube Collins receivers that have noisy volume controls and other similar controls that are variable pots.

How do I tell what kind of pot I am trying to clean without attempting to disassemble the pot? Is that a requirement in order to clean and lube the control?
.....

I am referring to the materials used in the wiper assembly. Normally there is an area where our DeoxIT® FaderLube or DeoxIT® DN5 with precision straw (4/100ths of an inch) can be inserted.

If you don't see this readily, query the manufacturer either online (which is my preference) or by calling their 800 number. Briefly explain what you're trying to accomplish, and allow them to help you.

Good luck with this project.
