Using an Eraser to Clean Electrical Contacts?

Many of my colleagues have used erasers to clean contacts. I know this is probably not a good idea, but everyone seems so sure that this treatment is acceptable. Please clarify.
.....
The only way to thoroughly clean contacts and connectors is with a product formulated to do so, like DeoxIT® or DeoxIT® GOLD. Simple contact cleaners ONLY wash away dirt, dust and grime, but prove ineffective at removing oxidation and surface sulfides.

The following is an excerpt from the CAIG website Knowledge Base. To review the entire article, please enter the search phrase "eraser."

"Do not use an eraser - ANY TYPE OF ERASER - to clean contacts. Erasers are highly abrasive and will remove the precious metal plating.

Further, the glue in erasers leaves behind a film that is extremely difficult to remove and can later cause intermittents. Also, rubbing an eraser back and forth across contacts can be a potential static generator."

NOTE:
DeoxIT® GOLD (formerly ProGold)
DeoxIT® SHIELD (formerly PreservIT)
DeoxIT® FaderLube (formerly CaiLube MCL)
DeoxIT® Grease Type M260 & L260 Paste (formerly CaiLube Grease).
