Cleaning Copper Welding Wire / Fixtures
We have production welders with welding wire of approximately 3" Dia, with a copper to copper surface. We have a tapping solution that gets wicked into this connection point, and we routinely clean this area.
I was wondering if DeoxIT® GOLD might keep the connection of this area in better shape with less cleaning? On other welders we use a copper paste for areas of connection.
We recommend DeoxIT® contact cleaner for this application. If there is a necessity for copper paste, the DeoxIT® Grease, M260Cp, (mineral based grease with copper particles), would be the best choice.
In the case of DeoxIT® in welding applications, let's take the metal used in welding wire, as an example. If the wire is perfectly clean, the weld becomes much stronger. For this reason, Toyota Japan uses the DeoxIT® in its processes.
DeoxIT® accomplishes two things:
1. It keeps the surface perfectly clean, and a clean surface makes for a much stronger welded joint; and one that can be done at lower temperatures or shorter welding times. It also takes more energy to break through that layer of oxidation.
2. DeoxIT® is also used for treating the welding wire in storage for protection, and just prior to the welding process.
