Research Lab Uses DeoxIT® Products

About 15 years ago, Scientific Instrument Services announced the value of your products to the scientific community. Based on their recommendation, I have been using CAIG products on our critical circuits in research-based Mass Spectrometers and other instruments for over 12 years. Using your products, most of these circuits keep running for several years between power down....a drastic improvement!!

My job is to service and keep the analysis instruments and equipment running and in the best possible condition. Basically, I view products such as DeoxIT®, DeoxIT® GOLD and DeoxIT® FaderLube as my timesavers and equipment "insurance policies" because they help keep the systems running about four to ten times as long between breakdowns/repairs and helps preserve the original precious metal finishes.

I have used various CAIG products in the chemistry laboratories and instrument rooms, which can be quite harsh on sensitive electronics, due to low levels of acids, etc. Before using CAIG products, I had to disassemble and thoroughly clean circuit board edge connectors, plugs, switches, critical socketed IC's about every 6 to 10 months.

This was difficult because it created more down-time and more frequent circuit component failures. By using the DeoxIT®, DeoxIT® GOLD and DeoxIT® FaderLube as recommended, I have greatly extended the average time between instrument and equipment electronic breakdowns.

The most frequent cause of instrument failure in chemistry buildings is corrosion to sensitive switches and electronics. Chemistry instruments and equipment are expensive or impossible to replace, so I rely on CAIG products to help extend the useful life of these items.

I always treat socketed IC chips with DeoxIT®, then DeoxIT® GOLD because this helps preserve electrical conductivity over time, and prevents "chip creep," which we have all experienced and dread.

As an example, we have a 36 year old Sargent Model XXI Polarograph Instrument that is filled with gold and silver plated switches and wire-wound potentiometers. When I used other brands of cleaners and lubricants, I never could get the instrument to work dependably for the student lab class. I found that by applying CAIG products to all the Sargent's switches, slide wires, etc., it runs just fine for about two years between applications.

In closing, after 12 years of use, I have found that the products not only perform as advertised, but in the chemical environment (acid vapors, etc.) of our chemistry/research building, they protect the circuits preventing many of the intermittent (difficult to troubleshoot!) circuit failures and other problems.
