DeoxIT® in an Electronic Environment

Cellular units (NO MORE CONNECTOR FAILURES), Collins 51S-1 & KWM-2A, Radios & Test Equipment

DeoxIT®, a Contact Cleaner & Preservative

We use DeoxIT® in a variety of ways. For the older radios, it works extremely well on pots and switches. A quick spray, and the control or switch is good for at least another year. It wicks its way into places you can't reach with other cleaners.

One Collins 51S-1 receiver had a band change switch that was so corroded, the technician thought he would have to replace it. After a quick shot of DeoxIT® D5 and switching through it's range, it has worked perfectly ever since. This is the kind of performance we have come to expect from DeoxIT®. All radios are routinely serviced with DeoxIT® during the lubrication portion of the maintenance cycle.

Another time a frequency offset occurred between different band crystals in a Collins KWM-2A. The bandswitch was frozen, but after a few shots of DeoxIT®, the switch was free, and the corrosion on the crystal sockets was cleaned to the point that the crystals centered up on the dial.

When we had a repair problem at a major cellular manufacturer, we sparingly used DeoxIT® and DeoxIT® GOLD on the connectors between the boards in various models of a handheld. After thousands of units processed in this manner, we have had no connector failures. We have also used it on antenna, and bottom connectors of various models.

We have used DeoxIT® on all connectors, switches, pots, and variable capacitors associated with all kinds of radios, and test equipment, and in the years that we have been using it, EVERY connection has been improved. It can be used without reservation on any electronic connection or connector, following manufacturer’s instructions.
