Black oxidation from arcing in elevator application
We are experiencing black oxidation from arcing. The circuit breaks when the elevator door is open and made when the elevator door is closed. To add to the problem, our installation is on the oceanfront, so some salt water mist is also present. .....
A number of elevator companies use DeoxIT® contact cleaner for maintaining their equipment. The DeoxIT® (in either the original or non-flammable version) is the approach we recommend.
After cleaning the metal contact/connector surface, due to your specific hostile environmental issues, i.e. salt water mist, apply DeoxIT® SHIELD.
The choice of flammable or non-flammable version is determined by whether the source of power can be shut down during the maintenance procedure.
IF YOU CAN do so, the original DeoxIT® (briefly flammable for 2-3 minutes while carrier solvent evaporates), would be excellent.
IF YOU CANNOT shut off the source of power during the maintenance procedure, the non-flammable DeoxIT ® DN5 would be the best candidate.
As previously mentioned, once all of the contaminants are removed, the final step would be the DeoxIT® SHIELD.
NOTE: DeoxIT® GOLD (formerly ProGold) DeoxIT® SHIELD (formerly PreservIT) DeoxIT® FaderLube (formerly CaiLube MCL) DeoxIT® Grease Type M260 & L260 Paste (formerly CaiLube Grease).
