When do I use DeoxI® vs DeoxIT® GOLD or DeoxIT® SHIELD?
DeoxIT® contact cleaner: General purpose, for all metal surfaces that conduct electricity. Use on non-critical metal surfaces to dissolve severe oxidation, surface contamination and corrosion. DeoxIT® also lubricates and protects the surface. For reference, DeoxIT® has approximately 20% cleaning action.
*If there is a discoloration of the metal, it is considered severe.
DeoxIT® GOLD: Formulated for plated surfaces (gold and other precious metals). Recommended for critical applications where only slight cleaning action is necessary. For reference, if the surface appears clean, applying DeoxIT® as a first step is usually not necessary.
If there is a minute amount of oxidation on the surface, DeoxIT® GOLD will dissolve this with no problem. Apply DeoxIT® GOLD after DeoxIT® on severely oxidized plated metal surfaces except where noted with DeoxIT® SHIELD below.
The more critical the connection/part, especially in low current applications, DeoxIT® GOLD should be the final step. DFor reference, DeoxIT® GOLD has approximately 0.5% cleaning action.
DeoxIT® SHIELD: Seals and protects all metal surfaces. It is recommended after DeoxIT® for best protection or on NEWLY manufactured metal surfaces. DeoxIT® SHIELD is also ideal where high degrees of moisture, pollution (sulfur, salts, acids, etc.) are present.
Apply to clean surfaces - after using DeoxIT® or other cleaning method. For reference, DeoxIT® SHIELD has 0% cleaning action.
