Gold Plated Contacts are Corroded
Please find the attached pictures of contacts for some connectors that we have service for only a few months. The weighing signal that is transmitted by the connector is very unreliable. As you can see, the gold plated contacts are corroded on the inside. Do you have a product that can correct and prevent it? We need a prompt solution or we will be forced to change connectors in all of the locations.
The voltage among the contacts is +/- 5 to 6 VDC. The load is >175 Ohms.
Please send me your comments.
Kindest regards,
Pablo S.
ANSWER:
You have found the solution to your problem and your maintenance of these contacts is about to get easier.
On the corroded connectors, you will want the DeoxIT® D5S spray, this version has a flushing action to assist you in removing contaminants. For moderately dirty connectors you will want to spray the DeoxIT® onto the connector and allow it to sit 10 to 15 minutes. Using a lint free swab clean the area treated. Continue this process until the area is cleaned of all oxides/corrosion, you will know this when the swab is no longer showing signs of contaminants. On extremely contaminated connections you may need to allow it to sit overnight. After the area has been thoroughly cleaned, follow it up with the DeoxIT® GOLD GN5S spay. After the DeoxIT® GOLD is applied allow it to sit 5 to 10 minutes and then you can reconnect it.
Note: Always ensure power is turned off prior to servicing.
On any of your new connectors, ensure they are treated with DeoxIT® GOLD prior to putting them in use.
