Treating Integrated Circuits (IC's) without removing them
Please advise me about which product and application method (i.e. spray or needle dispenser, etc) is most suitable for treating Integrated Circuits (IC’s) without removing them from their circuit board sockets.
…..
If you are not going to remove the IC’s from the circuit board sockets, then the recommended applicator would be the DeoxIT® GOLD needle dispenser (#G5L-25C). Ensure that you remove all power sources and use anti-static measures, being cautious not to touch the stainless steel tube to the IC pins or socket.
Apply DeoxIT® GOLD sparingly to the surfaces and allow it to fully dry prior to turning on the device. NOTE:
If these IC’s have a heavy oxidation build up, then pre-treating them with DeoxIT® (#D5L-25C) would prove useful. This step is only recommended if you are going to remove the IC’s. Please refer to the below text. The preferred method for treatment of these IC’s is to remove them, clean and treat them, and then reinstall them. This process will allow the DeoxIT® to remove all of the oxidation and the DeoxIT® GOLD to coat the entire connector.
Once the IC is inserted back into the circuit board, the DeoxIT® GOLD will migrate to the other half of the connection, thus increasing performance. Without removing the IC’s, oxides and other contamination are suspended in the connection orifice.
NOTE: DeoxIT® GOLD (formerly ProGold) DeoxIT® GOLD GxL (formerly ProGold GxL) DeoxIT® SHIELD (formerly PreservIT) DeoxIT® FaderLube (formerly CaiLube MCL) DeoxIT® FaderGrease (formerly CaiLube MCL P20 & P40) DeoxIT® Grease Type M260 & L260 Paste (formerly CaiLube Grease).
