DeoxIT Woke Up My Cars!
(Excerpt from CAIG Forum, Sun Dec 4th, 2005 11:57 am)
Hi,
I've applied DeoxIT and ProGold to the pins and terminals inside the sensor connectors (sockets and pigtails) on vehicles with excellent results. I applied it to only the Mass Air Flow sensor's power connector (that accepts plug from wiring harness) on the 2003 Ford Crown Vic police pkg car I drive. Made a huge difference in performance. Applied to just about every sensor connector on my '95 Corvette, and it made a noticeable difference on that car as well, better throttle response.
None of the terminals and pins in any of the connectors *looked* dirty or oxidized, the rubber weather seal on each socket appeared to have kept the internals well sealed off from the elements. But they still responded well to DeoxIT, and ProGold. On most of them, I applied DeoxIT first, then waited and applied ProGold. But I ran out of DeoxIT first so some of the connectors got only ProGold.
On my Corvette, I also applied ProGold to both ends of the ignition coil wire; coil end and distributor end. I was hesitant to put it there due to the high voltage, but we'll see how it does. My intention was to remove the coil wire after a few thousand miles and make sure the ProGold did not cause any glazing or other form of detrimental build-up.
I was later informed by a representative of CAIG that the original ProGold, which is what I used, is not intended for temperatures above 240 C. It won’t gum up or varnish, but due to the heat, will just vaporize.
CAIG does make a product for extended temperature range, called DeoxIT GOLD GxL, so the plan is to treat these particular surfaces when they get dirty with the DeoxIT first, and finish with the DeoxIT GOLD GxL.
NOTE: DeoxIT GOLD, formerly ProGold. DeoxIT GOLD GxL, formerly ProGold GxL.
