Stereo Turntable -Tone Arm Maintenance
What cleaner and lubricant is recommended for tone arm (stereo turntable) bearings?
P. Valdes .....
CaiLube 360 is a high performance lubricating and cutting oil, and it's available in a convenient 25ml precision needle dispenser. See http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.201/.f
Since you're involved with tone arm maintenance, please read an excerpt from Jim Mazur of Stanton Magnetics on the subject:
"...Older turntables are known for contaminated and oxidized contacts within the tone arm. If you are having connection problems or have an older turntable, it is recommended that you clean the contacts with a contact enhancing formula such as CAIG's DeoxIT® and DeoxIT® GOLD (available at www.caig.com).
DO NOT lick the contacts with saliva. This will increase oxidation and contamination, damaging both the turntable and the cartridge.
DO NOT use an eraser. Erasers are highly abrasive and will remove the precious metal plating. The glue in erasers leaves behind a film that is extremely difficult to remove and can later cause intermittents. Rubbing an eraser back and forth across contacts can also be a potential static generator which could ultimately short out the system."
